Description: Great Fundraiser and good for potlucks!

Dough:

  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Margarine
  • 1/2 cup Butter (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Egg (room temperature)

Filling:

  • Peel of one Orange or one Lemon, cut in small pieces
  • 1 cup Raisins or dried Cranberries (soaked in hot water, drained well)
  • 4 medium sized Apples, peeled and cut in small pieces
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg

Optional:

  • 1 cup Walnuts or Almonds

Grease and dust 11" diameter loose bottom round cake pan with flour.

Mix Dough well. Press the dough into the loose-bottom pan (keep a handful of dough for the strips (8) later).

Work the dough 2" high along the sides. Add the filling. Weave the 8 strips crosswise over the filling and brush them with beaten egg.

Bake for 1 1/2 hour at 323F.

Freezes well. servers 16
